 The Matatag Curriculum: Transforming the Philippine Education System    MATATAG: Bansang Makabata, Bansang Makabansa The latest curriculum for the K-10 grades has been launched and promoted by the Department of Education (DepEd) of the Philippines which is called “Matatag. ”The driving force of this initiative is enticing in so much as it aims to deal with the age-old learning problem in the country where reading, writing, arithmetic, and socio-emotional well-being serve as its primary focus. The emphasis on elementary skills implies therefore a shift to more comprehensive education, which is one of the attributes of raising observant individuals who can not only effectively face new challenges but also address them.  A phased-in implementation of the Matatag curriculum - from kindergarten to grade 10 - shows an integrated approach that is meant for gradual transition and maximum level of buy-in.
